This project was started in 2012 by a group of Japanese scientists led by Dr. Hitoshi Matsubara of Future University Hakodate. The team uses Hoshi’s short stories (more than 1,000 of them) as data, and uses Hoshi's essays on how to write stories as guidance.
The team was able to create several short stories in 2015 partly using A.I. They entered a couple of them to the Third Annual Hoshi Awards and one of them made the first round of the preliminary selection. The team hopes to increase the use of A.I. and someday let A.I. write stories on its own.
The project name The Whimsical A.I. comes from Hoshi’s famous science fiction story The Whimsical Robot, and I’m a Writer comes from Hoshi’s other famous work I’m a Hit Woman.
